Make-Ready Clean vs. Standard Cleaning: What's Actually Different

“Can you just come clean my house?” is one of the most common questions we get — and the honest answer depends entirely on what kind of clean the space actually needs. Here’s the real difference between a standard clean and a make-ready or deep clean.

Standard Cleaning

A standard clean is maintenance: surfaces wiped, floors vacuumed and mopped, bathrooms tidied, kitchen counters cleared. It assumes the space is already generally clean and just needs upkeep. This is typically a recurring service — and it’s worth noting up front that Out of the Ashes does not offer recurring residential cleaning. If what you need is a weekly or biweekly housekeeper, we’re not the right fit, and we’ll tell you that honestly.

Make-Ready / Deep Cleaning

A make-ready or deep clean is a one-time, detail-heavy reset. It covers everything a standard clean does, plus the areas that only need attention occasionally but make the biggest visible difference:

• Inside cabinets, drawers, and closets
• Baseboards, door frames, and light switch plates
• Interior windows, sills, and tracks
• Ceiling fans, light fixtures, and vents
• Behind and under appliances where accessible
• Grout, tile, and fixture detail in bathrooms and kitchens

This is the level of clean a rental property needs between tenants, a home needs before it’s listed for sale, or a space needs after a long stretch without deep attention.

How to Tell Which One You Need
